What Is Stealing Your Time?
- 1 min reading time
Hello! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones.
This past week, I took a break from social media. I noticed that a good portion of my time was being spent scrolling on Instagram. Not healthy, not productive, and not nurturing at all.
This was a bit more challenging for me, since I work with social media, but I limited my time to opening the app, posting, and leaving. No scrolling. I offered the time I would normally spend on the app to God.
My prayer is that whatever may be stealing your precious time with the Lord, you would become aware of it and offer it to God as well, especially at this time of year, when we tend to be more reflective. Ask the Lord to search your heart and point out anything that offends Him, as David prayed:
"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
Psalm 139:23-24
When we begin to notice where our time goes, we often discover where our heart leans. Time reveals loves, priorities, and sometimes quiet idols we did not even realize had taken root. This is not something to feel condemned about, but invited into. The Lord does not expose our distractions to shame us, but to free us and draw us closer.
As the year comes to an end, this is a sacred opportunity to realign with honesty and surrender. What we lay down, God is faithful to redeem. Even small offerings matter. A few reclaimed minutes, a quieter heart, a willing spirit. He multiplies what is given in love.
"Lord, search my heart and show me anything that is pulling me away from You. Help me release what distracts me and offer You my time, my attention, and my affection. Teach me to choose what truly matters and to rest in Your presence. I want You to be first. Amen."
