This verse in Ezekiel might hit hard

Hello! We’re just a few days away from Christmas, and I hope you’re preparing your heart and mind for this special season. Don’t forget we have a free Advent Calendar you can download. I’ve been reading it with my kids, and it’s been such a great moment for our family.

Alongside the Advent readings, I’m following my Bible reading schedule, currently in the book of Ezekiel. Today, I would like to comment on these verses:

“My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice."

Ezekiel 33:31-32

A little context: Ezekiel is announcing God’s judgment on Israel while they are exiled in Babylonia. In these verses, the Lord tells Ezekiel that the people were coming to listen to him only to be entertained, not because they wanted to hear from God.

I love how the Bible, written centuries and centuries ago, is still so relevant. As in Ezekiel’s time, many people today treat church as a form of entertainment. They enjoy the music and the environment, but they don’t take the messages to heart. For them, church is a social club, a Sunday habit.

They are not interested in taking up the cross and following Jesus. They do not want to give up their free time to serve.

👉 Today, examine your heart and ask yourself if you have reduced your church involvement to the level of entertainment. Does your worship truly change the way you live? Does the message find good soil in your heart and produce good fruit?

Let’s live with honesty in the intentions of our hearts, listening to God’s Word and putting it into practice. ❤️

"Lord, search my heart today. Help me not to approach Your Word as entertainment or routine, but with a desire to be transformed. Give me ears that truly hear and a heart that obeys. May Your Word take root in me and bear fruit that honors You. Amen."
