“Then these Levites set to work...” — 2 Chronicles 29:12

This verse unfolds during a turning point in Judah’s history. King Hezekiah had just taken the throne after his father, King Ahaz, had led the nation into deep spiritual darkness. Ahaz had shut the doors of the temple and silenced worship. The Levites, chosen by God to minister, had been pushed aside.

But when Hezekiah came to power, he reopened the temple and summoned the Levites back into service. He reminded them: You were chosen for this. In response, they set to work, purifying the temple and restoring worship in the land.

We may not have to face a wicked king, but pressures, distractions, or responsibilities can render us inactive and ineffective. When you’ve been given the responsibility to serve God and others, don’t neglect your calling. If you’ve become inactive in Christian service, whether by choice or by circumstance, look for the opportunities God is placing before you. And listen for the “Hezekiahs” He sends your way. Then, like the Levites, be ready for action.

What kind of opportunities does your local church have for you to serve?

👉 This week, look for ways you can serve others... in your neighborhood, local missions, or church. God desires to work through you.

"Lord, thank You for calling me, even when I’ve grown distant or weary. Help me recognize Your voice and the people You send to encourage me. Give me the courage to return to the work You’ve set before me. Amen."
