Choosing God’s Way in Every Decision

Choosing God’s Way in Every Decision

How difficult it is to say what Jesus said in Luke 22:42: “Not My will, but Yours be done.”

Maybe you’re struggling to let God lead your life. As humans, we love control, and releasing it can be very challenging. Yet the decisions we make reflect the true desires of our hearts. Before making a choice, a key question to ask is: Am I seeking to please myself, or am I seeking to please the Lord?

From everyday choices to life-changing decisions, we are called to submit ourselves to God’s will and trust that He sees the big picture and have only the best for us:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8–9

I’m passionate about drama ministry, and this topic instantly reminded me of a powerful skit that illustrates our struggle in surrendering to God’s will. Please take a moment to watch it, you’ll be blessed!

And finally, here are 3 principles to consider for wise decision-making:

  1. Turn to Scripture. God’s Word provides a wealth of truth and direction for how to live holy, pleasing lives before Him—and how to navigate decisions both big and small.

  2. Not every situation has a simple yes or no answer, and not every choice is spelled out directly in Scripture. Take time to pray over the matter. Don’t rush into important decisions, invite God into the process and wait on His guidance.

  3. Who is the spiritual authority in your life? Seek wise counsel. Your pastor, church elders, or a godly friend can offer perspective. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us: “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”

"Heavenly Father, today, I invite You into my decision making. Help me to make wise decisions. May your love inspire my thoughts, words and actions. In Jesus' name, Amen."
