Be Real with God

In the book of Lamentations, the author, Jeremiah, laments. He weeps bitterly over what has been lost. He does not say,"Chin up, shoulders back." He does not put on a happy face and carry on.
“How deserted lies the city, once so full of people!
How like a widow is she, who once was great among the nations!
She who was queen among the provinces has now become a slave.”
Lamentations 1:1
Somewhere in the midst of our modern conveniences, our culture has lost the art of lament. We ask how others are doing, but we don't really expect them to answer honestly. "I'm fine, thank you. And you?" is the expected response.
But we can be real with God. He expects it. He demands it! When we are hurting or confused or angry, He wants us to tell Him. He longs for intimacy with us, and intimacy is not possible without honesty.
God knows the gamut of human emotions. He has felt them Himself. When we are troubled, we can go to Him with our heartache. He will listen. He will comfort. He will understand.
"Dear Father, teach me to be honest with You, teach me to lament. Amen."
