Are we following Jesus or just what feels good?

Take Heart Shop

Hi there! Today, I want to share a powerful message from my home church last Sunday. One that really made me think…

What is a Christian? What does it truly mean to follow Christ?

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand." John 10:27-28

Jesus’ followers listen to His voice, follow Him, and are known by Him. That’s it. Yet, we see people today redefining what it means to be a Christian, picking only the parts of the gospel that feel comfortable and leaving out the rest.

Our pastor shared a creative slide illustrating how many approach Christianity today—like building a pizza, choosing only the toppings they like while ignoring the essentials.

I've lost count of how many times I’ve seen posts in local Facebook groups that go something like this: "I’m looking for a church that is [insert sin here] friendly, has a great children’s ministry, lots of windows and natural light (I don’t like dark spaces), and also includes X, Y, and Z."

Are we seeking only what’s convenient, shaping God (and His church) to fit our preferences, like a self-service buffet?

✅ Are we choosing: Love, Grace, Freedom, Protection
❌ But rejecting: Discipline, Truth, Self-Denial, Consequences, Instruction?

Maybe it's time to ask ourselves: Are we truly following Jesus, or just following what feels good? Let’s reflect and surrender... not just parts of our faith, but all of it. He is worthy of nothing less.

"Dear Father, You know my heart. Help me to serve and honor You wholeheartedly. Teach me to be a true follower of Christ, surrendering every part of myself so that You may increase in me and I may decrease. May my life reflect Your truth, not just what feels comfortable. Amen."

P.S.: Check out the full message on this topic. It's a great message, and I encourage you to listen:
