5 Keys to Hearing God Clearly

How can we know when God is speaking to us? How can we discern His voice from our own? How can we develop the ability to confidently listen to Him? I would say this is a million-dollar question for believers.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26
How can we know when God is speaking to us? How can we discern His voice from our own? How can we develop the ability to confidently listen to Him? I would say this is a million-dollar question for believers.
I'm currently reading Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer, and I’d love to share some insights with you. God knows we are not always good listeners, so His pattern is to repeat things more than once. He wants us to truly notice Him.
5 M’s to help us correctly listen to God’s voice:
1️⃣ Look for the MESSAGE from the Spirit. Set aside intentional time to listen and pay attention. Consider your intuition and how your conscience responds to the situation.
2️⃣ Search the MODEL from Scripture for guidance. Immerse yourself in God's Word so your conscience becomes sensitive to His standard. Carefully evaluate whether your intuition or feelings contradict Scripture in any way. If they do, they are not from the Lord.
3️⃣ Live in prayer MODE. If you are distressed or anxious about a problem, don’t waste time and energy worrying. Instead, bring it to God in prayer and wait patiently and hopefully for His answer.
4️⃣ Submit to Eli's MINISTRY. In 1 Samuel 3, we read about a young boy who didn’t recognize that it was God calling him, until Eli, the priest, provided wise and patient guidance. Likewise, seek counsel from mature and wise Christians.
5️⃣ Wait for MERCY’s confirmation. It’s amazing how God confirms His will in multiple ways: through circumstances, Scripture, and other believers. Pay attention to how He aligns these elements in your life.
"Lord, I praise You because You always reveal Yourself to those who seek You with all their hearts. Give me a heart that is sensitive to Your Holy Spirit and help me discern Your voice in a world full of distractions. Amen."
